Privacy Policy
1. Your data stays on your phone
Your music and pictures stay on your phone. Tagshare reads the audio files in your music library (and files you open or share to it) on your device only, and it only changes a file’s tags or cover when you tap Save. Android shows its own confirmation dialog before Tagshare may change a file in your library; files outside the library (for example on a USB-C drive or SD card) are changed only after you pick them in the Android file picker. We operate no servers that receive your music, covers or lyrics.
Song lookup. When you use “Find song info” or search for a cover, only the search text (artist, title or file name) is sent to MusicBrainz and the Cover Art Archive. No audio, file or device identifier is sent. Nothing is sent if you don’t use these searches.
Sharing. Songs, song cards, track lists, playlists and ZIP albums leave your phone only through the Android share sheet, to the app or person you choose. Tagshare never uploads your files anywhere. Temporary share copies are kept in the app’s private cache and removed automatically after 24 hours. Files other apps share to Tagshare are kept in the app’s private Inbox until you save them, delete them, or 30 days pass. The shared-history list is stored only on your phone and records the type, name and time of what you shared, never the file itself.
No account. Tagshare has no sign-in and no cloud sync. Undo history and settings stay in the app’s private storage; cloud backup of that storage is disabled.
2. Permissions
- Music and audio (READ_MEDIA_AUDIO on Android 13+, storage read on Android 12 and older) — asked when you first open your library, to show your songs and read their tags. Tagshare has no general write permission and no “All files access”.
- Changing files — no permission of its own: Android asks you each time Tagshare wants to change songs in your library, and files elsewhere are opened only through the Android file picker.
- Photos for covers — chosen with the Android photo picker; Tagshare gets only the picture you pick and has no access to your gallery.
- Notifications — optional, asked after your first saved edit; free users only, can be turned off: one short reminder a day at most.
- Internet and network state — song lookup (search text only), ads, analytics, purchases and consent. Your music and files are never sent.
Tagshare does not use the microphone, camera, location or contacts.
Third-party services we use
- Google Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Remote Config (Google) — usage statistics, crash reports, settings.
- Google AdMob — ads in the free version.
- Unity Ads — ads in the free version, through AdMob mediation.
- Google Play Billing — subscriptions and the lifetime purchase.
- MusicBrainz and Cover Art Archive — song information and covers, only when you search (search text only).
3. Analytics and crash reports (Google Firebase)
With your consent where required, we use Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the app is used and to fix crashes. We log anonymous events such as “paywall viewed” or “purchase completed”, plus device model, OS and app version, approximate region and an app-instance identifier. We never log your content; the app enforces this with an allow-list of event parameters. Crash reports contain the error type and stack trace only. Firebase Remote Config is used to tune paywall and ad settings.
4. Advertising (Google AdMob and Unity Ads)
The free version shows ads: one slim banner on a list screen, an occasional full-screen ad after you save something, and optional rewarded ads you choose to watch to unlock a Pro tool for a while. Ads never cover a live tool, onboarding or the paywall, and never appear in the first two minutes of first use. Tagshare Pro removes all ads.
Ads are served by Google AdMob, with Unity Ads competing for every ad through AdMob mediation. These partners may collect the advertising ID, device and usage information and approximate location derived from your IP address to serve and measure ads. See Google's and Unity's privacy policies.
5. Your choices (GDPR, UK GDPR, Swiss FADP, US state laws)
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Tagshare asks for your consent through Google's consent message (IAB TCF) before personalised ads or analytics are used. If you decline, ads are non-personalised and analytics stays off. In US states with privacy laws (such as California, Virginia, Colorado), you can opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information and targeted advertising. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy choices.
Legal bases (GDPR): consent for analytics and personalised ads; performance of a contract for the features you use and for purchases; legitimate interest for crash diagnostics where consent is not required. You may request access, deletion, correction or portability of data we control, object to processing, or lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. California residents (CCPA/CPRA): we do not sell personal information for money; ad partners may receive identifiers as described above, which you can opt out of in Privacy choices. We do not discriminate against users who exercise their rights.
6. Purchases
Subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are processed by Google Play. We never receive your payment details; Google tells the app whether Pro is active.
7. Retention and deletion
Your music, covers and edits remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app. To delete everything Tagshare keeps (Inbox, shared history, undo history, settings), use Android Settings → Apps → Tagshare → Storage → Clear storage, or uninstall the app; tags you saved into your files stay in those files. Analytics data is retained by Google for up to 14 months; to have it deleted sooner, email us as described on how to delete your data.
8. Children
Tagshare is not directed to children under 13 (under 16 in the EEA) and we do not knowingly collect their data.
9. Changes
We will update this page if our practices change and revise the date above.
